How it happened: East Henderson’s Kinsley Constance had a one-out triple in the first inning, and that would be it for the Eagle offense. Vitale struck out the final two batters of the inning to strand Constance.

East never had another base runner in the five-inning game, with Vitale finishing the day with nine strikeouts.

Polk County pushed across a run in the top of the first as Mia Bradley doubled and scored on an error. The Wolverines then added six runs in the second, that rally highlighted by Miya Jackson’s two-run triple and Katelyn Arrowood’s two-run single.

The Wolverines then capped the scoring with four runs in the top of the fifth, the big blow being Chloe Young’s three-run home run.

At the plate: Arrowood, Bradley and Vitale each had two hits, with Young, Jackson and Junie Mitchell each adding a hit.

Next up: Polk County will travel Thursday to Patton to face the Panthers in a 6 p.m. Mountain Foothills 7 Conference game.
