Polk Middle girls land second at Rumble in The Valley track and field meet

Polk County Middle’s girls track team placed second Tuesday in the seven-team Rumble in The Valley held at North Henderson High School.

 

The Wolverines had a stellar showing in the field events, compiling almost half of their 100.5 points there, to finish just seven points behind Macon Middle. Waynesville Middle and Flat Rock Middle followed in third and fourth, respectively.

The Polk Middle boys placed fifth, scoring 60 points, with Flat Rock Middle’s 113 points taking top honors. Macon Middle and Canton Middle finished 2-3.

 

Reeve Carroll led the field efforts for the Polk girls, finishing first in the high jump with a leap of 4-4. The Wolverines also got a second-place effort in the discus from Sam Walton and a second-place throw in the shot put from Chayse Hagins. Beija Olivari placed sixth in the triple jump, with Chloe Emory landing fourth in the long jump.

 

Carroll also finished third in the 100-meter hurdles, with Olivia Kirk placing second in the 1600-meter run, her time of 6:17.4 less than a second behind Maggie Giesnechlag of Apple Valley. Polk also had second-place showings in the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relays.

 

Samuel Rhein had the lone individual win for the Polk boys, his throw of 101-04 topping the discus field. Styler Blackwell’s third-place effort in the 100-meter dash and the Wolverines’ third in the 4×100-meter relay were the team’s other top-three efforts of the day.
