Patton improved to 5-4 overall, 1-2 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play. Polk County dropped to 5-6, 2-3.

How it happened: The Panthers did most of their damage in the first inning, pushing across four runs, keyed by consecutive doubles from Hailey Snodgrass and Marleigh Carswell, the latter driving in two runs.

Patton added two more runs in the sixth inning to build the lead before Polk County finally broke through in the seventh. Sarah Vitale opened the inning with a single, moving to third on an error and wild pitch, before scoring on Amberlyn Scruggs’ grounder.

At the plate: Vitale, Elizabeth Vitale and Mia Brfadley had the only base hits for Polk County as Patton starter Carswell struck out four and kept the Wolverines in check.

Next up: Polk County hits the road Wednesday, traveling to East Henderson for a 5 p.m. game.
