Polk County made its Mountain Foothills 7 Conference opener a successful one Tuesday, handing Patton a 3-0 loss in girls soccer action in Morganton.

The Wolverines improved to 4-0 overall with the win. Patton, also playing its league opener, dropped to 1-4-2.

How it happened: Polk County took a 1-0 lead in the first half as Caroline Taylor took a pass from Elena Carroll and hit a low left-footed drive into the left corner of the net. That gave the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage that stood at the half.

The Wolverines finished with 16 shots, 10 of those on goal, and largely dominated the flow of play.

Maggie McCammon finished with two saves, one of those in the second half on a point-blank drive from a Patton player following a corner kick.

Next up: Polk County will travel Thursday to Chase for another MF7 match. That contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. and is scheduled to be streamed live on NFHS Network.
