TRYON– On Wednesday afternoon, at approximately 2:10 p.m., a motor vehicle accident occurred on N. Trade St. near Forbes Preschool Center. 

 

A dark gray Dodge van collided with a power pole, causing it to fall down. The pole came to rest on utility lines. 

 

The nearby traffic light went out, causing traffic issues during one of the busiest times of the day.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and confirmed there were no injuries reported during the accident. 

 

An official on the scene said that the driver claimed the accident occurred because they had fallen asleep while driving. Tryon Police Department and Tryon Fire Department were also on the scene.

 

Officials temporarily closed one lane of the street due to the accident.
