Those in attendance spent the evening indulging in local art, hors d’oeuvres, and even some wine and beer.

Any member of Tryon Painters and Sculptors can offer a single piece of their work to each exhibit. Approximately 70 members submitted their work to Touch of Style.

One such member is Jim Shackelford. Shackelford, originally from Georgia but now living in Tryon, has been a member of Tryon Painters and Sculptors for about 15 years. Shackelford describes his painting on display at the exhibit, “Earth Song #2”, as showing “the relationship among mountains, trees and water so that the culmination was a song or ode to the Earth itself.”

Another member, Asher Anderson, is new to displaying his art at Tryon Painters and Sculptors. At 17 years old, he has been making art for about a year. Anderson uses old computer components in his artwork, exemplified in his submission, “Torn.”

“Since I want to stand out in my art, I want to create something new,” said Anderson, who joined the studio in January of 2022. “I envisioned the power supply wires would be able to convey the stretching veins of the monitor.”

He adds, “TPS has been a great place for me to get involved with other artists in our community.”

The organization also has upcoming classes and workshops available, including Gel Plate Printing with Natural Elements and Papier Mache in March, as well as Clay Sculpture, Oil Painting – Realistic to Abstract, and Eco Printing on Silk in April.

“Tryon Painters and Sculptors began 55 years ago as a small group of artists getting together to talk about and share their art. They were the first in the community to do so,” stated Tryon Painters and Sculptors President Nancy Holland. “Our mission goes beyond the membership. We are a resource of the arts for the community.”

Tryon Painters and Sculptors features seven exhibits per year. Touch of Style will run for eight weeks, from March 11 to April 29. More information on exhibits and upcoming classes can be found at tryonpaintersandsculptors.com.
