Mike Hrobek, of Lake Adger in Mill Spring, bought the location at 60 Pacolet St. in Tryon in June of 2020. He named it the Livery Pourhouse to honor his wife, Mandy, for her love of all things equestrian.

The upcoming locale will feature a total of 30 taps. Twelve taps will feature local craft beers, with two or three planned to be domestics. The remaining 18 taps will be reserved for wines.

Hrobek plans to focus on mostly European wines, but assures there will be some local wines, as well. There will also be seasonal beers and wines.

In addition, there will be a balcony overlooking downtown that can be reserved for couples that will feature high end champagne and hors d’oeuvres.

However, what will make the Livery Pourhouse truly distinctive lies in its method of distribution.

Instead of having a wait staff or bartenders, customers will have the option to use either a wrist band or “hotel-key like card,” that they use to scan at each tap. A touch screen will then give customers access to information such as cost, how much is being poured, and even background on their beverage of choice.

In addition to hors d’oeuvres, the Livery will also feature “pub food” and light sandwiches, with Slovakian and Polish food offerings as well, harkening back to Hrobek’s heritage. Hrobek is considering having games downstairs, including a range of board games, trivia nights, large scale digital party games and live music.

Hrobek describes his new shop as “a casual European-styled, equestrian themed self-pour establishment focused on providing a venue for the community to gather and experience regional craft beer, wine and an assortment of pub food and desserts.”

He added, “These offerings coupled with our seasonally rotating taps and food menu will provide the community at large with a fun and relaxing place to unwind with friends old and new.”

The building at 60 Pacolet was originally a dentist’s office in 1950, and over time transitioned to other businesses like an art gallery, retail store, and at one point even a distillery. The indoor construction is being conducted by Hrobek, his son, and son in law. The new construction is being performed under the mentorship of Keith Rimer, owner of Rimer Corp, whom Hrobek is eternally grateful for.

The Livery Pourhouse is projected to open sometime between fall 2024 and spring 2025.
