COLUMBUS–Adawehi Wellness Center will host two plant walks in March, featuring children’s entertainment and a walk through its famous labyrinth with founder Jackie Woods.

Woods says “the goal is a connection with nature. A plant walk is one way we can share that with others who also love Mother Earth.”

For those too young for the walk, a spring music lesson will be held by Linda Powell, a trained musician and a teacher who previously used music, stories and imagery to work with inner-city children in Atlanta. After the plant walk, attendees will be treated to a walk through Adawehi’s labyrinth with Woods, where she will give a brief introduction to the importance and value of the labyrinth, and answer any questions guests may have. Woods hopes the experience will lead to the community getting to know Adawehi better.

Adawehi’s trail and land have been designated as a Stewardship Forest by the state of North Carolina. The wellness center offers ongoing activities and services, as well as special programs and classes, such as an Energetic Development Training, which includes both on-site training and internet support over a year’s time. They also hold a weekend meditation retreat, and courses on personal growth, yoga, and tai chi.

Since its founding 25 years ago, Adawehi has grown to two wellness/community centers, an organic grocery store that was recently ranked as the number one health food grocery store in North Carolina, three more shops, two greenhouses, nine community homes and ten single-family rentals.

Jackie Woods states that the goal of Adawehi is “to help people find wholeness through integrating their body, mind, spirit, and emotions.”

The spring plant walks are free and open to the public. The events are on March 4 at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and again on March 18 at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., at the Adawehi Institute at 93 Adawehi Lane in Columbus.
