State indoor track: Polk 4×4 team takes fifth place

Polk County’s boys 4×400-meter relay team raced to fifth place Saturday to lead the Wolverines at the NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor Track and Field State Championships in Winston-Salem.

 

Competing at JDL Fast Track, Polk’s team of Cole Pereira, Nate Martinez, Cade Bright and Nathaniel Rhein posted a time of 3:40.59, finishing just behind third-place Union Academy (3:40.09) and fourth-place Lincoln Charter (3:40.49).

Community School of Davidson won the race with a time of 3:34.40.

 

Polk’s 4×800-meter relay team of Bright, Davis Young, Jayln Thomas and Martinez placed 11th with a time of 9:08.31 in a race won by Christ The King in a time of 8:22.73.

 

Rhein placed 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 36-8 and 17th in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.71.

 

East Burke’s boys and Swain’s girls won the team state championships.
