Landrum Boys and Girls Basketball open Region Play

LANDRUM – The Landrum Varsity Boys and Girls basketball teams had a busy week with home matchups against region foes Chesnee and Blacksburg.  

The Landrum Varsity Boys (16-3,3-0) came into the week looking to build on their number 6 ranking in the latest 2A high school rankings. They started the week with an 83-44 home win against Chesnee (5-14, 0-3). Franklin Davis would lead the Cardinals in scoring with 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting, followed by Bennet Edwards with 15 and AJ Lindsey with 10. 

Friday night, they would again defend their home court, nicknamed the Cage, successfully with a 88-55 win over Blacksburg (8-8, 2-1). Bennet Edwards and Franklin Davis would combine for 47 points, with Edwards scoring 25 and Davis 22. Coach Lynn Smith’s team plays next on the road against Greenville Tech Charter and Greer Middle College.

Landrum Lady Cardinals (11-5, 2-1)started the week with a 43-28 home win against Chesnee (5-12, 1-2) on January 10th. The Lady Cards trailed by two points at the end of the first quarter, but solid defense and consistent scoring in the final three quarters allowed them to double up their opponent 34-17 on their way to a blowout victory. 

On January 13, they hosted Blacksburg (3-11, 3-0) but were upset in a closely fought game 32-34. The game was the Landrum Girls’ first loss in the region and third loss at home this year. This week, Coach Jared St. Charles’s team goes on the road with region games at Greenville Tech Charter and Greer Middle College.
