TRYON–The ninth Tryon International Film Festival will be held Oct. 6-8 and will include a new educational initiative called the “TRIFF Institute.”

The institute is a gathering of filmmakers and film students from around the world sharing their experience and passion with future filmmakers in panels, discussion groups, lectures and workshops.

“You can’t celebrate a craft without providing education for those who want to do it,” says Ashley Crane, TRIFF’s Director of Education. “TRIFF is all about providing opportunities. You can see it in the amount of student and short films we host, the amount of world premieres we have, and the local filmmakers showcasing at our festival.”

The TRIFF Institute is free to the public and open to filmmakers aged 13 and up. All the institute’s activities will be held at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. The festival kicks off on Friday, October 6, with a career fair for high school and college students.

“We want to ensure we’re giving back to our community, our local artists, and our students,” says Crane. “With a gathering of such incredible filmmakers from all over the world, we’re thrilled to be able to bring them to TFAC and let them share their experience with our attendees.”

TRIFF is seeking sponsorships to help cover some of the costs of the festival and its educational programs. If you’re interested in being a sponsor, contact Tom Trobaugh, TRIFF’s Business Developer at 842-290-4401 or tomtrobaugh@aol.com.
