Landrum Boys compete in Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic

Coming off non-region wins against Polk County 54-40 and Highpoint Academy 66-61, the Landrum Boys Varsity Basketball team hit the road to participate in the Gatlinburg-Pittman Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, consisting of thirty-two teams from seven states.

The teams were split into four brackets, with the Cardinals, who 8-1 entering the tournament, playing in the blue bracket, where they opened up with a hard-fought 53-56 double overtime loss to Estill County (4-3) out of Irvine, Kentucky. Franklin Davis led the Cardinals in the loss with 14 points and five rebounds, and Bennett Edwards contributed 11 points and six rebounds. Senior Marco Gonzalez added a team-high 11 boards. 

The loss placed Landrum in the consolation bracket, where they defeated Allen County-Scottsville (0-7) out of Scottsville, Kentucky, in a tight contest 52-48. This time Bennett Edwards led the way scoring 20 points and seven rebounds, with Franklin Davis adding 14 points and seven rebounds. Marco Gonzalez added an impressive line of 2 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The Cardinals wrapped up the Christmas Classic with a 10-2 record after a 49-38 victory against Union County (0-2), Appalachia, Virginia. They next take the court on the road versus Chapman (4-6) on December 28 at 8:30 p.m.

The Lady Cardinals (6-3) were off the past week, after their 71-33 victory against Polk County. They next play at home versus Carolina Forest (7-3) at 5:30 on December 28.
