John Phillips Bean died on December 22, 2022, in Polk County, NC. He was born in Spindale, NC on August 1, 1938, the son of the late Kenneth and Anzie Bean. He was a graduate of Greenville High School, in Greenville, SC, and he graduated from Furman University in 1960, where he started his lifetime membership in the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He spent his professional life in the investment business, which culminated with him as a Certified Financial Planner for Wells Fargo Advisors. John was a member of Myers Park Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Chancel Choir, a member of the Board of Deacons, and he served as Chairperson of the Endowment Committee.

John is preceded in death by his granddaughter Clara Travieso and his brothers James and William Bean. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Morris Bean, their children John Phillips Bean, Jr (Carol Bates), Michael Avery Bean (Patricia), Michelle Williams Bean, David Eric Bean (Jennifer); their grandchildren Camron Young (Travis), Rene John Travieso (Nicole), Jonathon Bean, Caroline Roten (Josh), Andrew Bean, Samantha Bates, Hunter Bean, Grant Bean, Matthew Lerner, Sarah Lerner, and Harrison Bean; and their great-grandchildren Nash Young, Abigail Bean, Violet Travieso, and Mila Travieso. John is also survived by his sibling Gena Wallace (Archibald, III) as well as nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

John’s memorial service will be at Myers Park Baptist Church, in Charlotte, NC, on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.

The interment will be at Pea Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, in Mill Spring, NC on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.

Pallbearers will be John Travieso, Jonathan Bean, Andrew Bean, Hunter Bean, Grant Bean, Harrison Bean, Nate Mathis, and Jake Mathis.
