Spartanburg– Daniel Lesesne Smith III, 84, died December 16, 2022, in Tryon, NC.  He was born in Spartanburg, SC, on January 13, 1938, to Dr. Daniel Lesesne Smith Jr. and Clara Ravenel Smith.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Christ School and Wofford College.  He served in the U. S. Army for three years and was a Real Estate Broker for 35 years.  He was a lifelong Episcopalian, an avid reader, a bridge player, and a fixture at his beloved Lake Summit.  He was known for his storytelling, warmth, and sense of humor.

Lesesne is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Hines Smith.  He is survived by his siblings, Alice Smith Phillips, Clara Smith Carter, and Dr. Theodore Ravenel Smith (Sa); and beloved nieces and nephews, Ben Smith, Clara Smith, Sallie DeVeaux, Jane Carter, Rick Phillips, and Robert Phillips.  He is also survived by his former wife, Jane Guerry Smith; stepchildren, Glynn Guerry (Mary) and Elizabeth Shepard (J.R.); step-grandchildren, Frances and Crawford.

Lesesne’s family wishes to thank their friend, Diane Tuttle, for innumerable kindness.

A Celebration of Life service in Saluda, NC, will be announced at a later date.
