Polk’s Weaver concludes high school career with Shrine Bowl showing

Polk County’s Angus Weaver officially brought his distinguished high school football career to a close Saturday, taking part in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas in Spartanburg.

Just the seventh Wolverine to compete in the annual all-star game matching the top players in North Carolina against those in South Carolina, Weaver saw extensive time at linebacker in the game at Spartanburg High School.

South Carolina scored a late touchdown to take a 17-13 victory. Weaver finished the game with three solo tackles, two of those coming against Syracuse commit LaNorris Sellars and Clemson commit Jarvis Green.

Green scored the game-winning touchdown with 4:40 remaining. North Carolina scored in the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by St. Pauls’ Kemarion Baldwin and a 5-yard run from East Forsyth’s Jaylen Alexander-Raynor.

The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas serves as a fundraiser for the Shriner’s Hospital in Greenville. A replay of the game will be available beginning Dec. 24 on NFHS Network.
