Polk County residents helped fund food donations through a partnership between shoppers, Food Lion, Feed America, Outreach, and the Rotary Club of Tryon.

Food Lion believes no one should wonder how they are going to receive their next meal. To help make this a reality, Polk County residents donated to the Food Lion Feeds campaign while shopping at our Columbus Food Lion. Each $1 donation made at the register helped Food Lion and Feed America provide 10 meals. The meals were packaged in meal boxes and identified for donation to the local food assistance program at Outreach.

On a cold morning in November, Rotary Club of Tryon members and members of the new Rotary Club of Tryon Impact Team helped move the 3,000 food boxes from Food Lion to Outreach. Each box was moved by hand from the Food Lion loading dock, into a parade of trucks, and then offloaded into the food pantry at Outreach.

The Rotary Impact Team provides an opportunity for people to volunteer in our community without the commitment of being a full-time Rotary Club of Tryon member. Impact Team members are contacted whenever the Rotary Club of Tryon has a service project. If the members are available, they can come out and help live the Rotary Motto of Service Above Self.

The Rotary Club of Tryon meets every Thursday at the Presbyterian Church in Tryon. If interested in learning more about the Rotary Club of Tryon, the Rotary Impact Team, or the work we are doing in the community, please contact the Rotary Club of Tryon President, Carol Browning, at carolbrowning72@gmail.com or 864-580-1000.
