This year Parsec Financial focused the majority of its 2022 Parsec Prize grants ($185,000) to children and early childhood development.

Parsec launched the Parsec Financial Polk County Charitable Fund to support early childhood development initiatives that enable Polk County children to thrive in the first 10 years of their lives.

“Specifically, we want to ensure children have reliable daycare options and access to high-quality, affordable preschool programming with qualified, adequately paid teachers,” said Michael Baughman, senior financial advisor at Parsec. “We want children to have ample access to early literacy with a wide variety of books and library resources and programming. We want to ensure children are prepared for kindergarten and make successful transitions into primary school, poised for success. We want children to be healthy in all aspects of their early lives, with access to healthy food, primary care, and safe and sturdy housing and cared for by loving and supportive adults free from abuse or neglect.”

Grants of up to $5,000 may be awarded to local nonprofits that serve youth from age 0 through 5th grade until the entire fund has been exhausted.

“We are excited to distribute grants into our community from the Parsec Financial Charitable Fund,” said Sara Bell, CEO of the Polk County Community Foundation. “Since 1975, the Foundation has had the great privilege of working to increase the quality of life for all members of our community through honoring our donors’ charitable wishes. We can’t wait to see the impact these grants will have on our community’s youngest generation. Grant applications may be submitted for consideration in our first quarter grantmaking cycle. Information and applications are available at polkccf.org.”

One of the fundamental values at Parsec Financial is giving back to the communities in which they serve. They have long maintained a significant commitment to charitable giving and this core value is why they established the Parsec Prize in 2005.

The Parsec Prize is designed to help local nonprofits further their missions and help improve the lives of those served in our communities. Since 2005, Parsec has awarded more than $1.9 million in Parsec Prize grants to 101 local nonprofits. The Parsec Prize represents approximately one-half of Parsec’s annual charitable giving.
