Every Wednesday, peanut fans can visit Tryon IGA for the Gourmet Nut Sale, an annual fundraising project of the Rotary Club of Tryon. All proceeds from the sale go to the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation to be put toward the grant-giving process that helps fund numerous worthwhile projects.

The gourmet nuts being sold are from Plantation Peanuts of Wakefield, Virginia. Items being sold for the fundraiser include salted and unsalted peanuts, chocolate-covered peanuts, and peanut brittle.

The Rotary Club would like to thank Willard Teaster, a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.

The club will sell nuts every Wednesday at the Tryon IGA from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as Rotarians will be working the table in two-hour shifts during November and December.

Over the years, the Foundation has granted thousands of dollars to organizations close to home and overseas, such as Rise Against Hunger, Reading is Fundamental, Tuba Christmas, Polio Plus, and Project Dignity WNC. The organization has also donated tens of thousands of dollars to scholarships for young people.

Gourmet nuts will also be available at the Tryon Christmas Stroll on Friday, December 2, where the Rotary Club will have a table near the Plaza.

On December 3, Rotarians will be selling the gourmet nuts at the Old Mill Market Square Charity Flea Market from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as on Sunday, December 11, at the Community Chorus Christmas Concert at Polk County High School before and after the concert, which begins at 3 p.m.

Chicago Attorney Paul Harris founded the Rotary in 1905 as a networking group where civic-minded people of diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas. Soon after being established, the Rotary club quickly expanded its membership and mission by bringing humanitarian services to communities worldwide.
