Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Friends of Agriculture Breakfast returns Wednesday, November 16 at 7 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. Local farmers, growers, and other food producers provide fresh ingredients for a delicious complimentary country breakfast that will include: local sausage, eggs, grits, freshly baked bread, jams and jellies, fresh greens, and locally roasted coffee.

This historic breakfast has been held for the past 12 years featuring speakers from many local farms and other agricultural experts in their field. It is the place to meet your neighbors and connect with community support agencies that are here to help us all maintain our beautiful, rural agricultural county.

This month the speaker is Ryan Searcy, who was born and raised in Polk County in the Sunny View area. He graduated R-S Central High School in 1998. In 2004 he enrolled at Haywood Community College and in 2008 finished with an associate’s degree in forestry. In 2006 he returned to Polk County now married and began working as a smoke chaser with the NC Forest Service. After getting his degree he continued working with the NCFS in a temporary position until 2012 when he took a job as Assistant County Ranger in Davie County. Ryan was promoted to County Ranger in 2013 and remained in Davie until 2020 when he got the County Ranger’s position here in Polk and was able to move back home.

This event will be held at the Green Creek Community Center, located at 25 Shields Drive, Tryon, NC. Note: the center is not actually in Tryon, it is located in the Green Creek Community.

In an effort to be sustainable, please bring your own coffee mug and plate. A complimentary breakfast will be served.

Friends of Agriculture Breakfast is held on the third Wednesday of every month September through May. This complimentary breakfast is graciously sponsored by the local Polk County Farm Bureau and managed by the Polk County Office of Agricultural Economic Development.
