Kieran Roe, the Executive Director of Conserving Carolina, will be the guest speaker at the November 18 Train Tales at the Saluda Historic Depot. Mr. Roe will share his knowledge  about the proposed Saluda Grade Rails to Trail. Three non-profit groups, Conserving Carolina, PAL and Upstate Forever, are currently in negotiations with executives of Norfolk Southern Railroad to purchase 31 miles of railroad corridor that runs from Zirconia, NC to Inman, SC, passing through the town of Saluda and down the famous Saluda Grade. 

 

Prior to becoming the Director of Conserving Caroling, Roe worked for many years with Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy and was the first full-time staff person hired for CMLC. The 2017 merger of CMLC and the Pacolet Area Conservancy to form Conserving Carolina helped the organization to preserve 45,000 acres in Polk, Henderson and Transylvania Counties including the Green River Game Lands, Pisgah National Forest and Chimney Rock State Park.  

 

Kieran Roe has a BA in anthropology and an MLS in Library and Information Science from Rutgers University. The Depot Board of Directors and volunteers welcome Kieran Roe to the Saluda Historic Depot and Museum. Make an informed decision about the Saluda Grade Trail by attending the November Train Tales meeting at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 18.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
