FOOTHILLS — This Saturday, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS) of Polk and Henderson County attended a car care seminar and luncheon at the brand-new Prescott Auto Reserve in Fletcher.

Twelve pairs of Bigs and Littles had an exciting time touring Prescott Auto Reserve, a luxury car club and car storage facility that opened this year. It is a place for automotive enthusiasts to hang out and have their cars detailed, painted, and restored. The Big Brothers Big Sisters get-together is one of the many events hosted at the club’s 100,000 sq. ft. facility, filled with everything from classic cars to pickup trucks.

The Polk County chapter of BBBS currently has eighteen young people in the program, with several still on the waiting list to be paired with a mentor. The program is supported by the nearly twenty other BBBS chapters in Western North Carolina, and is currently one of the top-rated programs in the United States, earning an A+ rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy.

The Advisory Council is chaired by Bill Smith of Tryon, who has been a Big Brother for four years.

“Currently, 34% to 37% of Polk County youth live below the national subsistence level and qualify for state and federal aid,” according to Smith. “Our local chapter is looking for council members, Big Brothers, and Big Sisters. We’ve got a wonderful group of kids who are the future of our community that needs community support.”
