Forest City – Kenneth Edwin Carpenter, 82, of Forest City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday evening, October 26, 2022 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Born in Roane County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Bruce Carpenter and Mary Arleen Gillespie Carpenter and husband of the late Anna Mae Wilson Carpenter who passed away in 2019. Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He and his late wife moved to Tryon in 1996 coming from Zanesville, OH, and later to Forest City. Mr. Carpenter was involved in several churches in Polk County and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbus. He loved playing the guitar, model cars, and tractors and he restored a Model A Ford.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Carpenter.

Surviving are his two sons, Terry Carpenter of Forest City and Ron Carpenter (Andra) of Edneyville; two daughters, Marsha Thomas (Melvin) of Rutherfordton and Lynn Flinchum (Wally) of Dublin, VA; five grandchildren, Tyler Nickols (Hannah), Brett Carpenter (Lexi), Ashlyn Montgomery (David), Mark Minor and Keigan Carpenter; two step-granddaughters, Brittney Tilson and Ginger Loberger. Also, surviving are nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbus.

A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m., Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbus with Reverend Brian Wilson officiating.

Burial will follow in Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
