Avalon offers linens, jewelry, art, and more

 

TRYON –If you’ve traveled along N. Trade Street in Tryon during the past week, you may have noticed its newest addition, Avalon. This brand-new shop is stocked with a well-curated selection of vintage linens, children’s wear, art, handmade jewelry, and more. 

In Arthurian mythology, Avalon was a mythical place filled with enchantment. Avalon, which sits at 94 N.Trade St., could be described as being filled with enchanting items. Owner Beth Kinstler has carefully curated the shop, utilizing her twenty-plus years as an antique appraiser and estate liquidator to stock it with some of the finest pieces from her collection.  

“As a teenager, I fell in love with antiques after making my first few purchases, which included a pair of Victorian chairs, and from there, my collection continued to grow,” Kinsler says. “My love of handcrafted antique jewelry led me to take a jewelry-making class taught by Joyce Jonas of Antiques Roadshow. So most of the jewelry in my shop has been handmade by me.” 

Avalon was initially planned as a vintage linen boutique hosting a beautiful selection for almost any room in the home. Flax-based textile has seen a resurgence in recent years for craft lovers to upcycle. The vibrant fabric has numerous uses and can be repurposed for home projects that benefit from each square of cloth possessing a unique story and history.

One of Beth’s favorite things to do for her customers is to help them create a hostess gift bag by pairing linen with one of the other items in the shop, such as her homemade potpourri or jewelry. 

Necklaces, built from an array of porcelain, glass beads, and faux pearls, can be found displayed elegantly around the store. Above the displays hangs unique paintings and artwork that have come into Beth’s possession over the years. Soon, Kinstler plans to add silver plated and sterling silver plates to go with the antique silverware already for sale. 

Vintage baby clothes and a crib draw customers to one section of the store. The antique crib is adorned with frilly and lacy one-pieces, perfect for mothers looking to find something unique for their little ones. She’s also provided a donation box where customers can donate to get free linen, with all money going to Foothills Humane Society where she often volunteers. The store is dog friendly, with Beth often walking one of her three chihuahuas to work with her when they feel like going. 

Beth adds, “Avalon has a little something for everyone, and most of our products are made in America. So if someone’s looking for a stocking stuffer or other holiday gifts, I hope they’ll stop by.”         

Avalon is open Wednesday to Saturday at selected times, usually 11 am to 3pm, with an open house planned before Christmas. Customers can also make an appointment. Beth lives minutes away, so feel free to reach out to avalonant@aol.com and set up a time to visit.
