Tryon, Columbus, Landrum and Saluda offer plenty of Halloween activities 

 

Spooky season is upon us and with it comes cool weather, colorful leaves, creative costumes, and lots of fun events as local communities celebrate Halloween.

This year, numerous Halloween strolls, costume contests, and other activities will be offered to the families of the Foothills. 

A spooky scene as you enter downtown Saluda

The town of Saluda will be kicking things off with its annual Halloween Stroll on Thursday, October 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. You can enjoy the downtown atmosphere Saluda has to offer and treat the kids with a visit to McCreery Park after their treat bags are full with candy from business owners and other Saluda residents.

 

On Friday, October 28, Polk County Parks and Recreation will be hosting its community campfire at Stearns Park from 7 p.m to 8:30 p.m. They encourage attendees to wear costumes while eating smores and telling scary stories by the campfire. 

On Saturday, October 29, the City of Landrum will be celebrating autumn with its annual Fall Festival and Halloween Stroll on North Trade Ave. from 5 to 7 p.m. Trunk-or-treat, games, and costume contests are just a few of the activities that are set to take place at the festival.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office will be putting their own unique spin to trick or treating with its Drive-Thru Frightfest event. Sheriff Tim Wright and company will be sure to give out plenty of scares and candy to trick or treaters. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m at the Polk County Sheriff’s Department on October 29.

 

In addition, many organizations will be hosting their own trunk-or-treat events at their respective establishments. On October 29, Tryon Presbyterian Church will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and Green Creek Fire and Rescue will be holding theirs from 5 to 8 p.m.

 

On Monday, October 31, Polk County High School will be hosting its Halloween at the Farm event where trick-or-treaters can meet the farm animals, pick pumpkins, get their faces painted, and of course, receive candy. This event is set to take place from  3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

Also on Halloween, the Tryon Halloween Stroll will take place in downtown Tryon from 4 to 6 p.m. Trick-or-treaters will be able to enjoy the sights of Tryon, check out Morris the Horse, trick-or-treat, and enter a costume contest to win prizes.

 

The costume contest is set to kick off at 6 p.m just as the stroll is coming to an end. 

The contest will be broken into three age groups: infant to 4 years old , 5 to 8 years old, and 9 to 12 years old. Prizes will be given out for three different categories for each age group. The categories are funniest costume, most original costume, and scariest costume.

 

The Spooktacular Halloween event in Columbus will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on the lawn of the Polk County Courthouse, on October 31. Local businesses and organizations will be set up to offer treats for trick-or-trickers. In case of rain, the  event will be set up inside of Stearns Gym.
