The Polk County Appearance Commission is an all-volunteer body serving under the authority of the Polk County Board of Commissioners. It serves in an advisory role providing guidance, grants, and leadership in matters of community design and appearance.

 

Its members study the visual needs of the county, promote a public understanding of appearance issues, and help implement programs to enhance the visual quality of the Polk County area.

 

Matching Grants for Beautification: PCAC encourages community and civic leaders throughout the county to continue the traditions of tasteful landscaping, building design, creative beautification, and public art that have always made Polk County a special place to live and visit.

 

The criteria for receiving a matching grant include property used by and for the public, street appearance, and public space enhancement. Historically, grant appliers typically request up to $1,000 although this is not an absolute ceiling.

 

Matching Grants for Kudzu Eradication: Applicants eligible for this grant include towns and non-profit organizations. This grant application requires an assessment by a qualified individual, County Extension Agent, or a company that has expressed a willingness to do kudzu control. Historically, grant appliers typically request up to $1,000 although this is not an absolute ceiling. Applications were due October 15.

 

Grant Applications: Grant funds are limited.  Applicants will be considered in the order received. Applications for the upcoming year will be open from October 15 and reviewed on a rolling basis until available funds are allocated. Beautification Awards: Annual Beautification Awards are for projects that the public can view and enjoy. To receive one of these award certificates, the beautification work must be something that the general public can see from public roads or sidewalks or be on a property that is open to the public. The property can be either privately or publicly owned. To receive this award, the improvement project must enhance and improve our communities in ways that the public can see and appreciate.
