The Polk County Board of Education 2022 Election Public Forums will be held Tuesday, October 11, and Thursday, October 13, in the Commissioner’s Room at the Womack Building in Columbus. The start time will be 7 p.m. on both nights, and the forums are sponsored by the Tryon Daily Bulletin.

The forums will begin with three-minute opening statements from each candidate in randomized order. Using the round-robin method of discussion, each candidate will have three minutes to answer questions. Michael Baughman will be the moderator, and there will be a timer to enforce time limits.

Each candidate will also have a three-minute closing statement.

On October 11, the confirmed candidates from Tryon and Saluda who will be participating are Rob Parsons, Roo Wierzbicki, Jolene Williams, German Ruiz, and Mike Ashworth. On October 13, the confirmed candidates from Sunny View and Green Creek are Judy Jackson, Dee O’Brien, Brittany Klimstra, Jason Allen, and Sherry Page.

In an effort to keep the forums within a reasonable amount of time, there will be no questions from the audience on either night.

“These forums will be a great opportunity for the community to learn about each candidate in a completely neutral setting,” says Jeff Allison, editor of the Tryon Daily Bulletin. “The organizing committee has done a wonderful job putting this together, and I’m glad for the Bulletin to be a part of this as an independent voice.”
