Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

What sustains and replenishes you? How do we stay spiritually hydrated?

Join Terry Hershey for an enlightening workshop on Sunday, October 9, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at The Congregational Church (UCC) in Tryon. Hershey is an author, humorist, and inspirational speaker who will be sharing his practice of “pausing” and “sanctuary,” to help us rest, renew, and live wholeheartedly.

In the words of Terry Hershey: “Care of any kind—compassion, generosity, communication, reconciliation, service, ministry, teaching, giving—begins with and is nourished by self-care. Or in the words of Charlie Parker, ‘If it ain’t in you it can’t come out of your horn.’

“Care begins with the power of pause. Care begins with the intentional choices we make about being present. About passion, grace, play, laughter, and wholeheartedness. If we practice this power of pause, it spills into our relationships and our work. And our music. There is no doubt that I take my garden for granted, with its power to heal and sustain, where Sabbath and sanctuary tether and refuel the heart and spirit.”

In addition to being an author, humorist, and inspirational speaker, Hershey is a dad, ordained minister, golf addict, and is smitten by French wine. He divides his time between designing sanctuary gardens and sharing his practice of “pausing” and “sanctuary.” Terry’s book, This Is The Life, offers the invitation and permission to savor this life, to taste the present moment. Most days, you can find Terry out in his garden–on Vashon Island in the Puget Sound—because he believes that there is something fundamentally spiritual about dirt under your fingernails.

The workshop is free and open to the community. The church’s address is 210 Melrose Avenue in Tryon. Parking is directly across the street.
