Gardner opened Turquoise Cowgirl Boutique this summer, adding to one of the many businesses she runs. As a member of the equine community for over 30 years, she has worked as a mobile horse trainer for a large portion of that time, going to peoples’ barns and houses to train.

Turquoise Cowgirl Boutique offers ladies’ clothing and accessories, and Gardner will even close shop for a more intimate experience if a rider must dress for a show or event coming up and help put together outfits for the occasion.

“There has never been a variance in my mind of what I was supposed to do from childhood. My trajectory has been training horses, helping people with their horses, and opening up something to do with decorating,” she says.

A native of Chesnee, Gardner moved to this area because Campobello felt like home. “I’m a country girl at heart, even though I embrace all disciplines of the horse community,” she shares. “This area is still a bunch of county folk who were born and raised here with small farms.”

In addition to being a mobile trainer, boutique owner, and photographer, Gardner is about to be a talk show host.

“Tribe Talk” will be a radio show hosted right out of the boutique, and Gardner has already booked through October with guests who will be on the show.

“We have lost the sense of community and friendship and helping each other through, not just Covid, but everything going on in the world. I want to be able to be that voice that says, ‘We’re doing something different here.’ I’m going to put the emphasis on the horse community and farm community.”

Tribe Talk will begin within a few weeks, she expects.

Turquoise Cowgirl Boutique is located at 17750 Asheville Highway in Campobello and is open Monday through Saturday from 11–5 p.m. Helen Gardner invites you to reach out about other openings and mobile horse training at 864-590-6138 or 828-817-8684.
