POLK COUNTY––Labor Day in Polk County brings a dangerous amount of rain, which put the
county under a flash flood warning.

Until Monday afternoon at 3:15, Polk County and a portion of Upstate were included in the flash flood warning issued by the National Weather Service. The area experienced heavy rain showers and thunderstorms this morning and overnight.

In the first half of the day around 2-3 inches of rain had fallen over the area, with an additional 1-2 inches expected through the rest of Labor Day. The National Weather Service is warning those who live near bodies of water and low-lying areas to be aware of potential hazards.

The National Weather Service named Tryon and Columbus as areas that will likely experience flooding. They say to be alert if you live in an area where mudslides have previously occurred and to listen for falling rocks or debris if you live at the base of a mountain.

The warning will end at 3:15 p.m.
