Tryon– Betty Carr of Tryon, NC, fell asleep in death on August 9, 2022, surrounded by family after a short illness. Betty was born in Thelma, KY to Mason Blanton and Emma Childers Blanton James. She was proceeded in death by a son, Stephen Carr, sisters, Fern Younts of Independence KY, Helen Stafford of Van Lear, KY, Thelma (Katherine) Butcher of Shelby, OH, Diane Meek of Thelma, KY and 1 brother David Blanton of Cynthiana, KY.
She has one surviving brother Robert (Selene) Blanton of Thelma, KY. Betty’s surviving children are Debra (John) Buchanan of Mill Spring, NC, James (Jeri) Carr of Baltimore, OH, Ronda Carr of Tryon, NC, and Ginger Hudson of Inman, SC. Betty also had 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She also had an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Before her eyesight failed Betty was an avid quilter. She spent many hours lovingly hand piecing and sewing many beautiful quilts that were displayed in her home. Many from the Columbus, NC area knew Betty from her restaurant, Columbus Restaurant. People would come from miles around to eat one of her homemade meals or pies. Betty was also a faithful member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 48 years and spent many hours in her local community offering comforting messages from the Bible.
A memorial of her life will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Columbus, NC on August 20, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
