Be aware! If you have made any improvement to your home requiring a permit to be pulled, after the work is done Polk County’s Tax Assessment department can walk up, unannounced, and take measurements of the size of your property as well as look at the improvement itself. 

 

This is NOT the department responsible to ensure that the permitted work was done to code – those guys call ahead and make an appointment, and are welcome. This is the tax man! Just be aware they do not call ahead to make an appointment.
