It’s a wonderful time of year to be outdoors and the Glow Night event offers the opportunity for families and especially young people in grades 5-12 to have a night of fun in the outdoors before school begins. For some, it will be a chance to get in a round of disc golf for the first time taking advantage of the 9-hole course at Harmon Field.

Friday’s event follows a successful Hoopz basketball tournament held last week, where 10 teams competed in a double-elimination tournament that attracted participants from across Polk County, Landrum, Campobello, and even Asheville. There were a total of forty kids registered, ranging from grades 5-12, competing for cash and prizes as they were cheered on by a large crowd of supporters and volunteers. The tournament was supported by Gather Community’s partners: Edney Orthodontics, Thermal Belt Outreach, Tryon Presbyterian Church, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Unity in the Community.

Gather Community is an organization that seeks to fill in the gaps in our local youth programming by creating safe spaces and programs for young people to socialize and be active.
