Am I overreacting?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Dear Aunty Pam,

Real quick: am I being unreasonable because I got angry that my wife shared all over social media that she was pregnant, first, before she actually told me? She even took a photo of the pregnancy test gadget and posted that. She says I’m ‘overreacting’ and that she was about to call me. I say she should have waited until she talked to me. We had a huge fight and now we’re not speaking.

Dear K,

Real quick: no you are not. For the life of me, I cannot understand why she would not want to share her news, privately, first—especially considering the fact that she hasn’t passed that ’safe zone’ of the first trimester. But this is the world we now live in…many people feel compelled to ‘over share’ and post everything from pregnancy results, and arguments with their in-laws to photos of themselves being wheeled out of surgery with tubes coming out of every orifice. It’s madness.

Your wife owes you an apology. Feel free to show her this column. Especially so that she can then get a taste of what it feels like to have a spouse that shares his views publicly, before discussing them privately with her.

Cheers, dear!

Aunty Pam
