A familiar face is assuming the top leadership position at Polk County High School.

 

Polk County Schools announced Tuesday that Assistant Principal Michelle Bean has been named the 11th principal in PCHS history. She will replace Dr. Brandon Schweitzer, who was chosen last month as Polk County Schools’ Director of Operations.

 

Bean is entering her 10th year at Polk County High School, having joined the faculty as an English teacher before moving to the assistant principal role in 2016 when Schweitzer was named to the principal’s position.

 

“It is my pleasure to be chosen as the principal of Polk County High School,” Bean said. “I look forward to working with the finest teachers and support staff to provide the best education possible for each student.

 

“I am excited about the school year ahead.”

 

Bean graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in English Language and Literature/Letters and earned her master’s of Education in Literacy from Queens University of Charlotte in 2013. She also earned a master’s in Educational Leadership from Queens. Bean taught in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for 13 years prior to moving to Polk County.

 

Bean was chosen for her new role by a committee of PCHS faculty and administrators as well as district administration.

 

“We are excited to announce that Michelle Bean will be the next principal of Polk County High School,” said Superintendent Aaron Greene. “Ms. Bean has a great deal of experience at the high school level as a teacher and administrator. She has done a tremendous job as assistant principal and I am confident her strong relationships with PCHS students and staff will benefit her in this transition.

 

“Ms. Bean is a talented and dedicated educator and we are fortunate to have her lead Polk County High School into the future.”
