     We could not have imagined the overwhelming outpouring of concern and offers to help not only from the people of our mountain top community, but from all Polk County, and far beyond. Complete strangers went out in their cars and ATVs looking for our dog. Many of you have prayed for his safe return. 

     It has been 22 days since our beloved yellow lab, Rebel, escaped from our cabin. He was terrified of the nearby fireworks, flew out the front door in a flash, and disappeared immediately.

     For the first two weeks, it was a full-time job answering the phone calls, texts, emails, and Facebook postings. Even now, we receive information on another “sighting” almost every day. Many of you have told us stories about dogs returning after months of being missing. We still have hope. 

     Rebel was a wonderful dog. Even at the age of ten, he acted like a puppy. He loved people, especially our grandchildren and his favorite activity was playing in the small lake in front of our cabin with the kids. Pulling the grands around the lake by his tale was a joy for them all. If people were on the dock without him, Rebel would whine incessantly until he was allowed to come down and play. We had thought many times that we should change his name to “Wag,” because of his exuberant tail wagging. 

     Thanks to everyone for your kindness. It has been a blessing.
