American Red Cross provides opportunities to donate blood in Polk County

Community encouraged to help patients by giving blood this month

 

POLK COUNTY––The community will have two more opportunities to donate blood during July, thanks to the American Red Cross. Local residents are encouraged to give blood to help those with cancer and many others who may this lifesaving gift.

The American Red Cross will be at the Steps to Hope Community Room in Columbus on July 14 from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m., as well as at the Fellowship Hall of the Congregational Church (UCC) in Tryon on July 26 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The American Red Cross Blood Donor Services explains that cancer patients who take chemotherapy or have surgery might need blood for treatments or complications. They say, “More than 1.7 million new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the US this year, according to the American Cancer Society.”
