Tryon– Lillian “Jerri” Chapman Newton, 85, of Tryon, NC, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in her home.

Born in Rutherford County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Garfield and Geneva Ramsey Chapman and the widow of the late Homer Newton. Lillian loved her family, her dogs, Elvis, and collecting knick-knacks. She also enjoyed fishing and traveling.

She was predeceased by two sons, Billy Spurgeon Butler, Jr. and Ronald Dennis Butler, and a granddaughter, Haylee Seres. Surviving is a son, Scott Newton (Sarah); three daughters, Debbie Seres (Alan), Janice McCraw (Tom), and Linda Garland (Johnny); a brother, W.G. “Sonny” Chapman, Jr. (Barbara); a sister, Doris Simmons (Clarence); 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 24, 2022, at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Mr. Tom McCraw officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at Petty Funeral Home prior to the service.
