Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Polk County High School woodshop class recently stepped in and helped the Columbus Fabulous 4th of July committee, who needed to replace the stairs used to access the flatbed stage for the upcoming Fourth of July celebration. The stage is 5 feet tall and requires stairs for the performers, bands, speakers and volunteers to access the flatbed.

The Fabulous 4th of July committee worked with the Polk County High School woodshop class and asked them if they would build a new set of stairs. Mr. Morlino, the woodshop teacher provided a purchase list of wood and hardware needed. The items were purchased and delivered to the woodshop on Tuesday and by Thursday the new set of stairs was completed. The new design was sturdier than the previous stairs and included handrails on each side. A set of wheels was added to the bottom which makes the heavy stairs easier to manage and move around. The quality of work and craftsmanship that went into the stairs was top-notch.

The Fabulous 4th committee is very appreciative of Mr. Morlino and the woodshop class. The new stairs will make it easier and safer for the performers, bands, speakers and volunteers to access the stage and unload and load their gear for the festival. A huge kudos to Mr. Morlino and the Polk County High School woodshop class of spring 2022!
