Tryon– Timothy Alan Coleman, age 65, of Tryon, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022, after injuries suffered in November 2021. He was born in Greenville, SC on June 28, 1956, and was the son of Della Cater and Alvin Coleman, both of Greenville, SC.

Tim graduated from Brookly-Cayce High School in Cayce, SC, and lived in Columbia during his entire career having retired from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental in 2008. Tim retired to Miami, Florida with his husband and partner of forty-five years, J. Stan Thompson. They relocated to Tryon, North Carolina in 2018 after finding their idyllic home, Hillside Cottage.

Tim is survived by his husband and partner of forty-five years, Stan Thompson of the home, a brother Terry Coleman, his stepmother Deanna Coleman, of Duck River, Tennessee, stepsisters Jolene Campbell of Myrtle Beach, SC, Audrey Blakely of West Columbia, SC, Michele Rushton, and half-sister Tammy Daniels, both of Tennessee, many nephews, nieces, and extended family as well as his husband’s extended Thompson family. Tim was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Coleman, a stepbrother, his mother Della Campbell of Columbia, South Carolina, and his father Alvin Coleman of Duck River, Tennessee.

Tim loved to travel with Stan to unique places all over the world but when he was home, he was constant, perpetual energy as he cooked, gardened, repaired, created, and cared for his beloved Hillside Cottage. His kindness and willingness to help everyone in need or just to help is what anyone who knew him will always remember about him. The world was indeed fortunate to have Tim in it. He never really understood the effect he had on people and how they remembered him but anyone fortunate enough to know him all have wonderful stories that will stay with them forever.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon, NC with Father Robert Ard officiating. The service will be followed by a celebration of his life at Mountain Brook Vineyards.
