Adair’s Rod and Gun Supply hope to become a destination for outdoor sport enthusiasts 

 

Adair Edwards was five years old when she caught her first fish. You might say that was her first step toward the grand opening this Saturday of Adair’s Rod and Gun Supply in Mill Spring.

The 4,000-square-foot store is destined to become a supply oasis for hunting, fishing and archery enthusiasts. You name it, they have it or will get it for you. Top-of-the-line clothing for men, women and children as well as outdoor accessories are already in stock. Rifles, shotguns, handguns and ammo from the major manufacturers are there as well. A wide variety of fishing supplies, from rods and reels to lures and nets, can be found.

Adair’s is located at 109 Post Office Road in Mill Spring adjoining Tim Edwards Farm and Landscaping Supplies. It will open at 9 a.m.

The ambitious new store is an Edwards family project, so Tim and Alicia Edwards, who opened their farm store in 2012, see the addition of an outdoor supply store run by their daughter, Adair, as a natural extension of the family vision.

At 17, she is a senior at Polk County High School where she is enrolled in remote learning and works independently via her laptop computer.

Despite her youth, Adair is not only experienced at hunting and fishing, but she also has the Edwards family work ethic. “Obviously, I love fishing and hunting, but I also have a passion for horses (she owns four) and plan to show in western pleasure in a few months,” she said. She also has worked at Spy Coast Farm in Tryon training horses, but she will put that on hold until the new store is up and running.

The mission is to give customers what they have been asking for, but beyond that, the family hopes to make it a destination.

Tim Edwards started out in landscaping in 2000, but his passion for fishing began under the eye of his grandfather.

“At a young age I would be on a boat at Lake Adger all day by myself,” he said. “I caught some pretty nice fish, and I learned a lot.”

Mounted on a wall at the new store is a large crappie Edwards caught in Lake Adger.

“We plan to make Adair’s a destination, offering special services that complement hunting and fishing,” said Alicia.

 

The store will sponsor local fishing tournaments and help line up other tournament sponsorships as well. In addition to the thousands of artificial fishing lures in stock, there will be a wide variety of live bait.

Local residents knowledgeable in fishing, hunting, shooting, and archery will be working in the store to assist shoppers.
