SALUDA– Saluda Moon Glass Studio & Gallery recently held its grand opening at 24 West Main Street with a ribbon-cutting and celebration.

Friends and city officials were on hand as Susan Cannon, owner of Saluda Moon Glass Studio & Gallery, cut the ribbon and invited everyone to enjoy the party inside. Cannon specializes in kiln-formed fused glass. The gallery features functional items such as bowls and plates and wall art pieces for home or office decor.  Cannon says her style is at times whimsical but can also be abstract or expressionistic.

Visitors got to see some of Cannon’s work as well as the improvements she has made to the space.

“With the help of a Saluda resident I found my current location right on Main Street,” said Cannon. “It is a perfect structure for a studio/gallery with ample space, light, and energy for great things to happen. It took me four months to put it all together and now I’m ready to go full speed.”

Cannon had a small studio where she could not offer workshops or house a gallery. The new location is large enough for workshops. Cannon has 17 years of experience with kiln-formed fused glass and works with students, including children aged 8 and older, with no experience as well as makers who want to learn advanced techniques. She applies her 20 years as a corporate trainer and career counselor to her teaching through explaining things clearly, drawing out her students, listening with patience and leading others to achieve their vision.

“I like to have fun, to create experiences for people, to share my joy and to watch the excitement grow when students see their fired pieces,” said Cannon. “So many times, people say they are not artistic, or they can’t create. Then they see what they put together and they are delighted.”

The gallery is open 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The space will also be open for workshops and individual studio rental Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday or by appointment.

The grand opening and ribbon-cutting were sponsored by Saluda Moon Glass Studio & Gallery, the Saluda Business Association and the City of Saluda.
