Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The fun of community-created-music continues at Tryon Fine Arts Center (TFAC) this summer with a pair of vibrant music camps for youth and adults, June 13 through June 17

TFAC’s Pacolet Junior Appalachian Musicians (PacJAM) are concluding its 9th season of “building community one song at a time” with the PacJAM Summer Camp. The camp runs June 13-17, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon for youth ages 5 and up. PacJAM Summer Camp gives all participants hands-on experience with music theory, singing, Appalachian history, and dance, with special guest Alice Kexel traveling down from Asheville to teach youth about flat-footing. Students who have never played a stringed instrument before are welcome, and students who have experience playing will be challenged to learn more. Our special washboard track with Pretty Little Goats’ Mallory Carter is back for youth 5-11 years.  Youth 5-7 years can also take a ukulele class. Youth 7-18 years are offered beginning, intermediate, or advanced classes in fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and clawhammer or bluegrass banjo.

Adult classes are also available and will be offered the same week Monday – Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday and Wednesday classes provide a chance to explore improvisation with local multi-instrumentalist Carson Moore. Adults may also choose to jam on Tuesday and Wednesday with Mallory Carter and local mandolin player Will Trakas, or try their chops in “Beginning Clawhammer” with Amy Buckingham.
