As May is Mental Health Awareness Month, Steps to HOPE has focused its school bulletin boards on encouraging students and faculty to make their mental health a priority. In a time when stressors can be at an all-time high, we need to remind ourselves and others to take a step back and refer to simple gestures such as connecting with friends, limiting our time on social media, or taking a walk outside in order to cope. The bulletin boards feature celebrities who have recently been in the media spotlight for various reasons but with a central message that all have proven mental health is a serious subject and it needs to be talked about more.

Steps to HOPE place bulletin boards in Polk County Middle School, Polk County High School, Polk County Early College, Landrum Middle School, Landrum High School, and Lake Lure Classical Academy as a community outreach project each month during the school year. The boards use current, popular, and/or topical subjects to deliver positive and timely messages to students and staff. Contact information is prominently displayed on each board for anyone who might need services provided by Steps to HOPE, the local domestic violence and sexual assault center serving Polk County and Upstate SC.
