“Anything but a Backpack” serves for a fun Thursday at LHS

 

LANDRUM––Last week, Landrum High School held “Yearbook Week.” Every student was given the opportunity each day of the week to dress up to match that day’s theme in hopes of winning certain privileges if their class had the most people participate. 

Last Monday was Pajama Day; Tuesday was Soccer Mom and BBQ Dad Day; Wednesday was College Day; Thursday was Anything but a Backpack Day, and Friday was Class Colors Day.

The freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes had a chance to win a free yearbook.

Brittany Jamison, LHS secretary, says, “It boosts the morale of the school. We’re right here at the end, and everyone is just trying to get through, so it’s good to try to give them something fun to participate in.”

On Thursday’s Anything but a Backpack Day, students were able to use anything except a backpack to carry school supplies. Jamison says she saw students pulling a red wagon, pushing a wheelbarrow, carrying a laundry basket, and pushing shopping carts throughout the day. Other students got creative by using a canoe, a Yeti cooler, and even a kiddie pool.

At the end of the week, the freshmen won the Yearbook Week contest and earned senior privileges––they got to leave school at the senior bell and ate lunch early.
