Mill Spring– John Patrick Dunn, 78, of Mill Spring, NC passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022, from an ongoing medical condition.
John was born June 14, 1943, in Morris County, NJ to John and Lucy Dunn. After graduating High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam. After four years he was awarded an honorable discharge. Upon returning home he joined his uncle’s construction company and took over the company after his uncle retired. He and his family moved to Middlebrook, VA in 1986 where he worked at various construction companies and also ran his own construction company until he retired and moved to Mill Spring, NC. John was a master with construction equipment, a perfectionist, and a skilled and very creative craftsman. His hobby was building “outside birdhouses” as well as other highly detailed and imaginative crafts which he sold at craft fairs and gave away to family and friends. He had a large and joyous Italian family with many aunts, uncles, and cousins that would gather at holidays and birthdays for large celebrations filled with love and good food! He was an incredible storyteller and the life of many parties. John loved NASCAR, riding his Harley motorcycle, and spending time with family and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Lucy, his stepfather Neil Schult, his sister Lucy Lemma and his niece Katelyn Dunn. He is survived by his sons; Nathan, Justin and wife Rachel; daughter Michelle and husband Ron; stepsons, Wayne and David Richard and wife Stacey; sister Thelma and husband Bill, brother Dan and wife Constance, as well as 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
A memorial mass will be held on May 12th at St. Therese Church, Succasunna, NJ. Subsequent to mass there will be a graveside service at Stanhope Cemetery, Netcong, NJ.
