After a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus, the Community Chorus will return to the stage on May 15 for a Spring Concert to benefit the Rotary Club of Tryon scholarship fund.

Dr. Brennan Szafron, music director and organist at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon, will direct the concert, titled “Great Broadway and Opera Choruses.” This will be Szafron’s first time at the helm of the Community Chorus.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Szafron served the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg as organist and choirmaster for 18 years before coming to Holy Cross. He is also an adjunct organ instructor at Converse University in Spartanburg and is in frequent demand as a recitalist and an accompanist. He has performed with the Spartanburg Philharmonic, the Spartanburg Festival Chorus, and the Greenville Symphony. He holds organ performance degrees from the University of Alberta, Yale University and the University of Michigan.

The Community Chorus Spring Concert, set for 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Polk County Senior High School, will feature both show tunes and familiar opera selections. Tickets to the concert may be purchased from Rotary Club members or at the door the day of the concert.
