The Big Brothers Big Sisters annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser showcased the generosity and altruism of the “Friendliest Town in the South.” Through the support of our donors and bowling teams, Polk and Henderson Counties raised over $20,000 dollars. “This money helps Big Brothers Big Sisters to continue serving the youth in our community,” Program Coordinator, Tara Scoma said. “We currently have 20 youth in our area matched up with a Big Brother or Big Sister through the program, with some of our matches going on ten years together, which is really special. The relationships our Littles build with their mentors helps them reach their fullest potential, and funding from our community allows us to continue to support and monitor these match relationships to help them be as successful as possible.”

Participants in the bowling fundraiser enjoyed an afternoon of bowling and fellowship at Tarheel Lanes in Hendersonville. Some of our bowlers even got festive with futuristic costumes to go with the “Bowl for the Future” theme. Some of the Little Brothers and Sisters in the program joined in on the fun by building their own robots, competing to see who could come up with the most creative design.

The Congregational Church of Tryon, the Tryon Bottle, and the Cooper family were our main sponsors this year, along with a host of generous sponsors from businesses and individuals in the community. Big Brothers Big Sisters is so grateful for the ongoing support of our community. We could not achieve our mission without you! 

Big Brothers Big Sisters is still accepting applications for more youth to join our program in Polk and Rutherford Counties. Youth in the program enjoy hanging out with their mentors two times a month while bonding over fun activities out in the community.
