Dennis and Wanda Gorges’ generous donation is going toward the Isothermal Polk Foundation to fund a scholarship program for graduates of Polk County Schools or Polk County residents who are going into the Isothermal Construction Trades program.

Wanda McCall Gorges, a native of Polk County, noticed a lack of availability when trying to hire workers for home repairs and renovations. Their hope is that this scholarship will help grow the number of workers in the area.

Money from the Gorges-McCall Scholarship is expected to be used for supplies, technology, equipment, and other expenses.

Dennis says, “The hope is that starting with high schoolers in Polk County is that they have a connection to the area so they’re more likely to stay.”

Dennis and Wanda were on campus on Wednesday touring the Construction Trades area, led by Michael Lyda, the program’s lead instructor.
