“You normally have to be bashed about a bit by life to see the point of daffodils, sunsets and uneventful nice days.” ~ Alain de Botton

With daffodils nodding sunshine-yellow smiles and spring around the corner, many of us are stopping by garden centers. I swung by one for a large bale of peat moss and a peek at incoming plants being unloaded.

Of course, those heavy bales were stacked wayyyy-high, and there was no help around for 40 acres…so I tugged one off the top, let it thump to ground, and tried (huff, huff) to wrangle it to the cart. The cart would move, the bale would not, and round-and-round we went. I just could NOT manage to lift that beast by myself—you’re slipping, I thought: winter-weak ole gal!

Finally, I wiggled-pushed-skidded it on the bottom of the cart, paid up and told the lone cashier I needed HELP to load it. Of course, no help for 40 miles or acres. As I steered the load to my car trunk, I looked far and wide, and saw help coming over the horizon, just as I was starting to wrangle again.

Sometimes it pays to admit to ourselves we need a little help. I’ve never asked for help on toting peat moss bales, but from now on, it’s a new day. HELP!
