Supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina have been delighted that the organization’s annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraiser will soon be held live at a bowling alley near them.

Reflecting on BBBSWNC’s optimism for 2022, Bowl For Kids’ Sake theme this year is “Bowl For The Future.” Bowlers are encouraged to dress in futuristic costumes while bowling (costumes aren’t required, but in keeping with covid protocols, masks are).

“Bowl For Kids’ Sake has long been a part of the BBBS program,” said Lelia Duncan, BBBSWNC President and Chief Executive Officer. “It’s a fun event, brings people together, and provides the critical funds needed to ensure that all youth in WNC are supported by one-on-one mentoring. Our services are needed now more than ever.”

BBBSWNC supports “Bigs” and “Littles” matches in 18 WNC mountain counties. Holding local Bowl For Kids’ Sake events are BBBSWNC branches in Buncombe and Burke counties, as well as these counties that are combining their events – Cherokee/Clay, Haywood/Madison, Henderson/Polk/Transylvania, Swain/Graham, and Cashiers Highlands/Jackson.

Times, dates and locations for each event, as well as how to register, are at bbbswnc.org. Polk County’s event will be held on March 5 from 3:00 to 5:00 at Tarheel Lanes in Hendersonville (see below for a full schedule for other counties). Bowlers are invited to create or join teams of up to five people and raise money as a team. Teammates can register and contribute online, or they can collect donations and bring them in on the day they bowl. If they’d rather, they can raise money but not bowl. The money supporters raise stays in the county they intended it for.

BBBSWNC is also looking for local businesses to sponsor the event. Sponsors are available at various levels and each level has its own degree of media exposure. If you would like to sponsor the event for Polk County, you can contact Tara Scoma at Polk@bbbswnc.org or 443-791-0638.

Each year, half a million people across America come together to have fun and raise money to support Big Brothers Big Sisters as it expands what’s possible for youth.

Bowl For Kids’ Sake is the perfect way for people to make an impact on their community. And it only takes a little bit of effort to raise the money that their branch of Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC needs to serve local youth.

Many children in Western North Carolina don’t have a caring, compassionate adult they can call their very own. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina works to change that by matching trained, professionally supported volunteer “Bigs” with local children who need someone in their corner. A few hours a week, these matches do simple activities proven to improve a child’s self-esteem, such as doing homework, going for walks, trying a new recipe, or shooting hoops. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina offers committed adults several options for helping a wonderful child in their community who deserves a great future.
